SFx Lunch & Learn: “How Do We Remember?: Public Space and Scrutiny”

June 16, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

AIA NOLA Small Firm Exchange
LUNCH AND LEARN
June 16, 2021 at 12 NOON
AIA New Orleans Center for Design.

We will view the exhibit “HOW DO WE REMEMBER? Public Space and Scrutiny” on display at the Center.

Emilie Taylor Welty, AIA, Dr. Lisa Molix, and Seth Laskin will discuss the exhibit.

This course explores the research on monuments and memorials in public space that was conducted by an interdisciplinary team of Tulane students and faculty. The research was funded by the SOM Foundation and the resulting exhibit, “HOW DO WE REMEMBER? Public Space and Scrutiny” is hosted by the AIA New Orleans chapter.

The CES course is a one hour presentation and conversation taking place at the exhibit. The presentation and exhibit focuses on monuments, what they honor, and how their design memorializes the truth (or fiction) of our collective past.

Grounded in research on the history and typologies of monument design, and a recently conducted national survey, the presentation also explores ways to create more equitable public spaces in New Orleans and beyond.

Please RSVP for lunch headcount and acce[t  the calendar invite and emailing [email protected].
