Using Stormwater Modeling in Iterative Site Design:  An Integration of Techniques from Engineering and Landscape Architecture

Stormwater management has qualitative, spatial, and temporal design considerations that are fascinating opportunities for architects and landscape architects to tackle.  However, quantitative feedback is essential for an iterative design process.  Modeling makes iterative calculations faster and more approachable.  This presentation will show how stormwater modeling and calculators can be used to answer the “what if” questions early in the design or planning process.  Case studies from New Orleans will include commercial projects designed to meet the 1.25” detention requirement as well as district level planning studies.  Brooke Morris, PE, PLA is both a licensed landscape architect and civil engineer with over seven years of experience in New Orleans designing, modeling, and communicating stormwater management.
